The Hidden Heart

This is one of Jason’s newest vessels, and after many years of creating sculptural wooden forms, he considers it his favourite piece. Crafted from London Plane burl, his aim was to preserve some of the tree’s history, almost freezing it in time.

Rather than hiding the natural flaws and features of the burl, Jason has used them to his advantage, allowing them to become an important part of the story. He wanted the vessel to feel like something lost to time – an ancient Greek vase rediscovered centuries later.

The patinated copper interior helps create that aged appearance, giving the piece a sense of history and mystery. For Jason, it’s often the imperfections that tell the most interesting stories.
