Thames Matter is a collection of work created through collecting both materials and inspiration directly from the River Thames foreshore. This piece, titled Thames Matters: Crevice, is inspired by an area of the foreshore on a dry day. As the ground dried, it pulled apart, producing large crevices. I made a quick sketch of the patterns within a small area of these crevices and recreated the same pattern within the vessel. The unique textured glaze has been created using pure Thames clay mixed with a small amount of ash, producing a natural, iridescent, ruptured finish when applied onto the piece and fired at high temperatures.
