This vase is made from a large elm burl. It was made by mounting the wood to a traditional wood lathe and turning it off-centre. The natural edge of the burl gives the vase the look that something is missing or broken away, giving the piece the look of an Ancient Egyptian vase that has just been excavated.

The vase is all handmade, with the artist using an additional woodturning tool to slowly carve away pieces, in the hope that the vase looks completely different from different angles and perspectives.

About Jason Lock

Jason Lock was working as a site carpenter until a life changing accident left him in a wheelchair. He was taught basic woodturning skills on a carpentry course and has since been working to develop his own woodturning business. Mostly self-taught, his passion is unique mixed resin and wooden art forms.
