Dawn

This piece was fired over three days in a traditional wood-firing kiln. Entering the kiln completely unglazed, the ash deposits from the fuel melted to create a dappled green, glassy surface with hints of grey and orange. On the underside, the direction of the flame path that passed beneath the piece during firing is visible, leaving a permanent scorch mark that tells the story of the firing process. Low-iron stoneware body with a small amount of porcelain slip applied.
