Ancient Echo

A hand-turned hollow vessel shaped by the natural character of the timber. The flowing turned surface is contrasted by areas of burr, voids and fractured edges, revealing the history held within the wood. Rather than hiding these natural imperfections, I have incorporated them into the form, allowing the vessel to develop its own character. The large opening exposes the hollow interior and creates a strong contrast between the smooth, warm surface and the rugged natural edges. The irregular silhouette and exposed timber give the piece the feeling of an ancient object, shaped by time and nature. Ancient Echo reflects my interest in creating work that feels as though it carries a history of its own—where craftsmanship and the natural life of the tree remain visible together.
