Deb King is a handweaver working with carefully selected natural materials and fascinated by the conversation which develops between the materials, the loom, and her hands during the making process. Most of her work is for interiors and includes art pieces made using hand-manipulated lace and passementerie techniques, giving the traditional but outmoded craft a modern twist by increasing the scale and breaking the rules.

Although we prize the original features in period properties, the soft furnishings and draperies that echoed them are now lost, ready to be reimagined as wall hangings and framed art works. Deb uses very fine redundant silk to hand spin multiple cords which are then carefully handwoven to produce intricate patterns which invite the viewer to trace the path of individual threads and consider the spaces between them.
