Miae Kim

London-based artist Miae Kim, originating from South Korea, spent much of her adult life in Los Angeles working as an animator and visual effects artist before discovering her passion for ceramic art. After many years along the Southern California coast and frequent visits to Hawaii, she developed a deep connection with humpback whales. Their immense scale and distinctive forms - marked by lines, textures, and barnacles - left a lasting impression that continues to shape her ceramic practice. Her work is deeply inspired by whales and oceanic landscapes. Whales - graceful yet strong - inform her artistic language through ideas of movement, endurance, and continuity. Their long migrations and powerful presence in the ocean resonate with themes of resilience, intuition, and balance with the natural world. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including the British Ceramics Biennial (Fresh 2025), and she will be exhibiting at Ceramic Art London 2026. She is a selected member of the Crafts Potters Association.
