"The act of making cloth connects me to a long line of weavers whose tradition is vanishing in a world of mass production. It is the space where storytelling, making and memory meet.”

Majeda Clarke is an award winning woven textile artist with a multidisciplinary approach to design. A Clothworkers Foundation and Cockpit Studios Awardee, she has received the British Muslim Award and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Published in The Wall St. Journal, World of Interiors, and The Sunday Times, amongst others, her work has an international following. She has exhibited widely in galleries such as Aram, Mint, The Contemporary Applied Arts, and National Centre for Craft and Design. With a keen interest in the future of craft and promoting diverse access, Majeda is a Trustee at The Crafts Council. She combines her public speaking and teaching skills with making; producing works that reflect and celebrate her perspective as a British Bengali immigrant. 

Her work ranges from Blankets woven in Lancashire mills to UNESCO World Heritage Jamdani scarves to fine silk wall hangings woven in her London studio; each employing a distinct tonal palette that combines geometric shapes with pops of strong colour. Influenced by Bauhaus design, Indian motifs, and storytelling, she explores the hidden histories of cloth. It is the medium through which she reveals narratives of colonial trade, female protagonists, and mythology. Telling a story through colour, material, and process, her pieces intersect an Indian and British weaving language. Each item is sold with a card that carries the signature of the weaver and a map of its heritage, building on the skills of a past generation through the hands of the present generation.
