Kaye J Bonnar

Kaye J Bonnar is a Scottish artist and maker based in South London, working from Cockpit Deptford. With a background in textiles, having specialised in weave at the Royal College of Art, her practice focuses on contemporary basketry, creating sculptural vessels that blend traditional techniques with modern design.

Material exploration is central to Kaye's work, as she repurposes discarded and found materials — such as rope, plastic bags, yarn, tape, ribbon, twine, fabric scraps, and marram grass — through intricate hand-weaving. She finds that “making do” with what’s available not only supports sustainability but also pushes her to experiment with colour and texture in unexpected ways.

Her work highlights the beauty in everyday materials, transforming them into pieces that balance form, function, and storytelling. Kaye has exhibited in galleries, open studios, and events, with pieces available through her online gallery and shop. Through her practice, Kaye aims to celebrate basketry’s heritage while redefining its place in contemporary craft and art.
