Katharine Coleman MBE

Katharine Coleman MBE is a Board member of the Glass Society and was taught glass engraving by Peter Dreiser at Morley College, London between 1984 and 1987. Using copper wheel, sintered diamond and stone wheels on a lathe as well as drill techniques, she works on colour overlaid lead crystal blown to her design by Potter Morgan Glass.

Katharine’s work is in many international collections and on show in many, including the V&A (London), the Veste Coburg (Germany) and Corning (USA). She is a co-founder of the Glass Engraving Network, a lively international network of glass engravers, exhibiting widely in Europe.

Most recently she had work at the British Glass Biennale 2024 in Stourbridge, the Treasure House Fair in London with Adrian Sassoon and PAD with Peter Layton. Awarded an MBE for services to glass engraving in 2009, Katharine has had several solo exhibitions in Paris and Edinburgh and is regularly shown at TEFAF Maastricht and Treasure House with Adrian Sassoon and by the Scottish Gallery.

In 2022 the V&A made a short film of Katharine demonstrating her engraving technique, now on the Red List of Endangered Crafts, in her studio at Cockpit.
