Ian Scott Kettle
Ian Scott Kettle is a London-based artist and bespoke maker of men's accessories and fibre art hangings, holding degrees from Saint Martins and The Royal College of Art. His design career is built upon his advanced skills in pattern cutting and refined bespoke construction techniques.
Prior to establishing his own label, Ian worked extensively with UK-based independent designers as a cutter and freelance designer, with his creations sold in London, New York, and Paris. During this time, he also designed commissions for notable figures including Michael Jackson, artist Cindy Sherman, and costume designer Sandy Powell.
The ethos of Ian Scott Kettle centres around craft, personal service, sartorial innovation, and sustainability. Whether working directly on the body to create meticulously crafted accessories or off the body in his fibre art hangings, Ian’s work is fundamentally based on 'constructed' forms. He exhibits little interest in decorative or textural explorations, instead preferring to work with flat colour and precisely cut shapes to emphasise structure.
Ian’s creative output is deeply informed by a love for art history, folklore, and English calendar customs, alongside his extensive knowledge of traditional gentlemen's cloth accessories. He re-imagines these accessories through the lens of classic bespoke construction and modern cutting methods, re-working lesser-known historical pieces such as the band, jabot, coif, and chaperon. In addition to his practice, Ian has dedicated over twenty years to teaching fashion design at Saint Martins. He also lectures internationally, developing and delivering courses and seminars to both students and industry professionals across the globe.
