Artist Nadia Anne Ricketts' journey into the exploration of transmuting the intangible geometrics of sound into unique, decorative, artworks began in 2008, when she invented a technique that could freeze the nature of sound in time and space. It has been a generational unfolding of over thirteen years of research, development and trialling, which began whilst studying at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art & Design. Nadia was fascinated by how simple, universal mathematical principles could merge with the complex, intricate structures of woven threads. The warp (longitude) and weft (latitude) threads represent energetic fields – the ley lines upon which we exist – capturing patterns within the woven web of thread. These patterns mirror a universal, sacred constellation within art, but also as sound is fleeting, its experiences are not and will always lay woven within the cellular fabric memory of our being.
Nadia’s passion for the sensibility felt by music led her into training and working professionally as a dancer and later into a woven textile artist and sound healer. A deeper understanding of sound stemmed from her travels of living and working in over 33 different countries around the world, learning about the preciousness of our universal language. From music to song, spoken word to mantras, and prayers to healing frequencies, she could see the huge value in changing these modalities into tactile artefacts for us to keep and cherish forever.
