Amber Khokhar is a multidisciplinary painter and designer blending traditional art with contemporary aesthetics across both personal and commissioned works. Her practice explores archetypal motifs and decorative arts, drawing from a deep well of global traditions – especially those rooted in nature, geometry, and women’s work.

Amber spent four years at Central Saint Martins, and later received a British Council scholarship to study poster design in Warsaw, Poland. There, in a country under censorship, she experienced first-hand how design can provoke thought and communicate powerfully without words. Her academic journey also includes studying Indian art at Harvard and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and completing an MA in Traditional Art in London.

Amber’s commissions – often shared by word of mouth – are both intellectually and aesthetically ambitious. Notable works include the first modern carpet for Buckingham Palace, commissioned by HM The Queen and HRH King Charles III; a stained-glass ceiling for Dumfries House; and ceramic tile installations for Toynbee Hall and Aintree Hospital. Her clients also include Rolls Royce and The Mercers’ Guild. She has exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts, the William Morris Gallery, and Queen’s Museum of Art in New York. A recent highlight was Head, Heart, Hands at Cockpit Deptford – a 21-meter mural made of hand-glazed tiles. It celebrates community history through geometric pattern, colour, and Amber’s own creative lens. 

Amber's personal work is exploratory and experimental, navigating different aesthetics and themes with a strong narrative focus. She thrives on the complexity of working across media while engaging with historical and symbolic forms. Amber also teaches Traditional Art in London and internationally. Walking between many worlds, her work is both deeply personal and universally resonant – a visual language shaped by material, memory, and meaning.
