Adele Brereton
Adele Brereton grew up playing with clay in her mum’s pottery studio in South East London, being taught how to make pinch pots and coil pots. The feeling of the clay stretching and growing has informed the way she approaches working with metal.
Adele uses the process of hand raising to sculpt silver and gold, creating tactile jewellery and objects that look and feel like they have been hand formed rather than hammered many hundreds of times. Adele’s work is based around discarded and eroded manmade objects, which results in an inherently organic aesthetic. Drawn to hollow and irregular forms, she often returns to the sherds of Victorian smoking pipes found at the foreshore of the River Thames. Her work also investigates textures of rust and erosion and uses reticulation to emulate the textured surfaces of eroded objects.
Adele’s use of subtle textures combined with a simplicity of form creates quiet and understated objects and jewellery. Her work is made using 100% recycled precious metals.
